Data Management
Abstract
In any organization
it is assumed that data
feed will originate
from multiple heterogeneous
sources. This white-paper
addresses the common
ailments that are faced
during any data reconciliation
activity. It accounts
for multiple source
systems and the reconciliation
done during each phase
of the multi layered
ETL process namely Data
Acceptance, Data Transformation,
Data Assimilation and
finally Data Utilization.
The Data Utilization
layer is the Reporting
layer. Although no reconciliation
will be done at this
layer, the Data Reconciliation
Reports will belong
to this layer and will
report on the reconciliation
done in previous layers.
The white-paper provides
a framework for the
Data Reconciliation
process in general and
does not delve into
the implementation details.
Customizations will
be necessary during
implementation and will
vary as per the business
needs.

Understanding
Business Process Management
for Communication Service
Providers
Abstract
Today's business processes,
consisting of numerous
practices, disjoint
data models, application
logic, workflows, and
many other point solutions
repeated a hundred times
in a hundred silos,
need to be rationalized.
Companies need the capability
to recast all business
processes into a standard
form that is open to
manipulation by familiar
tools and skills already
in place. To achieve
a fundamental shift
from process reengineering
to ongoing process management,
companies are beginning
to understand the value
of the Business Process
Management System.
Business Process Management
(BPM) is a concept that
attempts to align business
strategy with technology
to achieve interoperability
between them. It represents
a holistic business-system
view that will play
an essential role in
the transformation of
Communication Service
Providers (CSPs) into
'lean operators'.

Prepaid and
Postpaid Convergence
Abstract
Tech Mahindra’s
Integrated Customer
Management Solution
(ICMSTM) is a true converged
solution that enables
Service Providers to
meet tomorrows’
demand for prepaid-postpaid
convergence of voice
and data services. With
a suite of pre-integrated
add-ons Tech Mahindra
has further enabled
ICMS allowing Service
Providers to become
truly customer-focused,
and enhance its service
offerings across the
prepaid and postpaid
customer segments.

Security in the 21st
Century – Technology
Trends and Associated
Threats
Abstract
The telecommunication
industry across the
globe has seen not only
evolutionary but revolutionary
developments in technology
that have forced the
need to reengineer existing
business models. This
paper elaborates on
the concepts of OSS
and TeleManagement Forum’s
(TMF’s) NGOSS
along with the analysis
of current industry
trends that are responsible
for transformation of
OSS into NGOSS. This
paper also throws some
light on the benefits
of NGOSS as seen by
service providers and
system integrators,
and provides a checklist
for those about to prepare
for an OSS Transformation
to ascertain their degree
of readiness.

Security in the 21st
Century – Technology
Trends and Associated
Threats
Abstract
Service providers and
organization today find
themselves vulnerable
to growing risk brought
by rapid changes in
the technology evolution,
changing business environment
and requirement to stay
competitive. This paper
investigates various
telecom technologies
trends which are going
to shape the future
network architecture.
These developments are
leading to deployment
of services which we
had never thought of
just a few years ago.
The report includes
an analysis of the most
important technology
developments and associated
information security
threats due to rapid
deployments of new technologies.
It talk about some of
the proactive measures
for information security
which are already in
place by industry leaders
and also discusses in
detail as to what more
can be done to have
a safe and secure computing
environment.

Mobility Solutions
Mobile Content
Delivery
Abstract
Competition from different
telecom operators, emergence
of new technologies
and falling revenue
through traditional
voice service have forced
telecom operators to
introduce new value
added services. Content
services are one of
the successful Value-added
Services today, which
have improved the revenues
of operators and created
new industry groups
providing content. Mobile
content evolution has
a very close relationship
between device capabilities
which present the content
and bandwidth availability
of operators who deliver
the content.

Network Design

Network Planning
and Optimization
Abstract
The increasing usage
of the Internet around
the world leads to a
massive growth in traffic
volume and dynamics
to be handled by the
network backbones. To
cope with this development,
several high dynamic
solutions like optical
burst switching (OBS)
and optical packet switching
(OPS) have been investigated
during the last few
years. They all can
cover the high dynamics
of Internet traffic,
but there is no direct
migration path from
today’s static
SDH/SONET-based WDM
networks towards IP-over-OBS/OPS
as these technologies
require a completely
new infrastructure (nodes
etc.) and control systems.
This argument is even
stronger in presence
of the current market
downturn.
One feasible solution
to cover the dynamics
of IP traffic is the
concept of enhanced
automatically switched
SDH/SONET-WDM multilayer
networks. The major
reason for this approach
is the fact that dynamics
can be covered and at
the same time an evolution
path for today’s
SDH-centric networks
exists.

Next-Generation

IP TV Solution
Implementation
Abstract
Faced with potential
erosion of their subscriber
base, carriers the world
over are also involved
in providing additional
value to the end users
beyond merely offering
voice services. While
the first generation
IP TV solutions are
being rolled out by
the tier-1 operators
during 2006, many more
operators are expected
to provide such services
in the near future.
Television service
that could be delivered
over broadband, called
“IP TV”
is being seen as an
effective solution complement
data and voice service
providers. Efficient
broadband modems such
as ADSL2+ and increased
use of fiber in the
access networks (FTTx)
have resulted in making
such services a reality.
This paper addresses
considerations in selecting
and implementing IP
TV solutions, general
basics of IP TV and
Tech Mahindra’s
approach to implementing
such services for service
providers.
