Network Modeling and Simulation Strategies for Content Delivery Network
Abstract
With an explosive growth in content traffic, telecom companies are moving towards building adequate network capabilities, network topologies etc to be able to deliver content effectively. Some traffic is more controllable than the other and hence complex strategies need to be deployed for a healthy and regulated content traffic.
In this paper, we explore various modeling and simulation strategies to be able to design good hybrid CDN deployment architecture. It also covers different network simulation tools with their merits and limitations.

eCohorting - An opportunity for telco content delivery networks
Abstract
Telcos deploying content delivery networks for OTT, IPTV, gaming and other services need to take into account the content traffic flowing over a P2P overlay network on their networks. Optimization of P2P traffic in a telco/ISP network can not only optimize P2P traffic flow over core and access networks but also help reduce peering costs with other ISPs, international backbone networks.

Scalable video coding for hybrid content delivery networks
Abstract
Media distributions have gained popularity in recent years. The media transmission to numerous recipients, located in different locations, using different devices and connection speed is still challenge for CDN providers. With Hybrid CDN operators gaining popularity, what is distributed becomes more important than how it is distributed. Scalable Video Coding (SVC) is one such technique to achieve scalability in Media payload over a peer-to-peer network and only distribute streams to relevant consumer groups that are based on network proximity, network conditions, and device/ media player capabilities.

MPLS Evolution: MPLS Transport Profile
Abstract
In recent years, market forces in the telecommunication industry have been pulling from several directions. There is an emerging need for packet-oriented aggregation infrastructures complementing the traditional SONET/SDH transport solutions with equivalent operational characteristics. To serve the need, in 2006, ITU-T came up with MPLS based T-MPLS protocol, but due to compatibility issues with MPLS, T-MPLS was terminated at a very early age. In 2008, ITU-T joined hands with IETF to develop a protocol called MPLS-TP. This protocol was extension of T-MPLS with compatibility issues resolved.
This paper provides an overview of MPLS-TP, differences between MPLS-TP and T-MPLS, OAM frame structure of MPLS-TP and market prospects of MPLS-TP. Also, this paper outlines Tech Mahindra’s approach towards this protocol.

Content Delivery Networks- Improving the video experience
Abstract
Content Delivery Networks are rapidly evolving as the demand of content is becoming more and more profound. Telcos have been predominately passive till today in accessing the impact of content explosion on their network. Both core and access networks would need to undergo changes to better shape and monetize the content traffic. Tech Mahindra Telco CDN 2.0 framework provides strategies to address these needs.

Hybrid CDNs- Leveraging the Best of Both Worlds
Abstract
CDNs have evolved to distribute and deliver media content to millions of users, across geographically disparate locations. However, the challenges on the networks to deliver quality content without succumbing to traffic loads and routing decisions, have only compounded. This paper investigates the dimension of a Hybrid CDN involving P2P/P4P schemes to improve the network health, and touches upon considerations that may be currently going unnoticed.

Migrating to Carrier Ethernet in Mobile Backhaul
Abstract
Backhaul, the part of the network from the wireless tower to the Mobile switching center, has always been an expensive part of the total service model. Growth in service demand has drastically increased the bandwidth requirement in the backhaul, while revenue per bit is going down. To meet the dual challenge of rapid bandwidth growth and new services, wireless service providers and backhaul providers need to implement backhaul solutions optimized for cost and performance.
Migrating to Carrier Ethernet is one of the solutions for many of the backhaul issues. Migration from legacy backhaul to Carrier Ethernet technology in the RAN (Radio Access Network) offers many benefits for both service providers and also to the customers.
This white paper provides the importance and benefits of Carrier Ethernet migration, key challenges in migration and CESoETH (Circuit Emulation Service over Ethernet - one of the migration methodologies). Based on the Resource Capabilities and Market trends in Mobile Backhaul, Tech Mahindra can plan to involve in Requirement, Design, Development and Testing of CESoETH-IWF area.

VRRP- Cure to Single point of failure in modern networks
Abstract
Every Host has a default gateway router configured for connecting them to the outside world. Now, if this router goes down, Unavoidable disconnection from outside world occurs. VRRP is designed to eliminate this single point of failure in the static default routed environment by automatically providing the alternate router acting as a default gateway for hosts. This paper focuses on the virtual router redundancy protocol as a standard and discusses its implementation for increasing network uptime, with out putting any extra overhead on the hosts.
