Tech Mahindra selects Malaysia to kick off international expansion – enlarges its Global Solution Center Operations in 15 Acre Campus in Cyberjaya

- State-of-the-art software development facility substantially boosts Tech Mahindra’s range and export of software development services from Malaysia to local, regional and global customers
KUALA LUMPUR/HYDERABAD, December 1, 2009: Tech Mahindra, the new brand identity of Satyam Computer Services Ltd. (NYSE:SAY), a leading global consulting and IT services provider, announced today that it has selected Malaysia to kick off a new international expansion.
As a country-specific investment strategy, the newly rebranded company announced it would enlarge its Global Solution Center (GSC) operations in Malaysia by moving more global software development and delivery operations to its Global Solution Centre (“GSC”), located at a 15-acre site at Cyberjaya, Malaysia’s prominent Info-Comm Technology (“ICT”) corridor.
This latest development which takes place just five months after the new owners, Tech Mahindra Ltd. (NSE:TECHM), gained control of the Hyderabad-based software company, demonstrates the continued commitment of the company’s new owners to Malaysia’s strategic role in Tech Mahindra’s global growth plans.
Relocated from its present premises to a larger facility in Cyberjaya, the new state-of-the art GSC – which has 18 configurable Offshore Development Centre blocks, 1,100-seat development block and a data centre to host 1,100 servers – will serve as Tech Mahindra’s largest technology development and delivery facility outside of India.
By focusing on providing a full range of both mainstream business and technology functions like Remote Infrastructure Management Outsourcing¬, Business Process Outsourcing, Software Services as well as some specialised Software Testing, the new GSC substantially ramps up Tech Mahindra’s range and export of offshore delivery capabilities from Malaysia.
In this way, Tech Mahindra’s increased Malaysian presence accelerates the consolidation of the company’s strategy to provide a distributed delivery capability for global customers. This approach calls for components of large-scale projects to be completed wherever it makes the most business sense, rather than having an entire program take place in a single facility. As a result, Tech Mahindra can deliver significant cycle time and cost reductions, in addition to quality enhancements to customers.
The Malaysia campus also reflects the organisation’s commitment to creating an alternative workforce, multi-country model, and a global delivery approach offering optimal, customised business solutions to its global customer base.
Presently, the center has 500 full-time local engineers serving local and global customers.

According to MDeC’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, MSC Malaysia plays an important role in the national economic agenda, as it serves as the vital location where local and international MSC Malaysia Status companies can grow and receive the full benefits of the 10-points stated in the MSC Malaysia Bill of Guarantees (BoGs).
The first BoG, which is “To provide world class physical and information infostructure” aims to provide an encouraging business environment with leading and high-end infrastructure to meet the requirements and expectations of large ICT investors, as well as providing the platform for smaller ICT companies to grow.

Tech Mahindra recognised the MSC (“Multimedia Super Corridor”) Malaysia’s potential as an IT hub as early as 2001 – a one of the first global organisations based in India to do so – when the then-Satyam Computer Services Ltd. (“Satyam”) set up operations here. In 2003 Satyam began servicing numerous customers in Kuala Lumpur. In 2007, the former entity established a Global Solution Center centre in Cyberjaya in conjunction with MDeC, which oversees the the MSC Malaysia initiative.
