Redefining Networks Strategies

Posted by: Hemant Patil On November 02, 2016 07:12 PM

Technology has evolved rapidly over the last 25 years. The world has witnessed a change from Analog voice to Digital voice to Mobile broadband, and now to Mobile Internet. From fixed line to mobility, from feature phones to smart phones – there has been a tremendous change in the way people are getting connected. Technology has enabled people to remain “always available”, irrespective of location and time. It has radically changed the way people interact and conduct business. As an increasing number of people are adapting to this improved way of life, the demand for reliable connectivity, speed and quality of service has put a lot of pressure on the very fabric that connects all – Networks.

Building and scaling network to meet the growing subscriber, data, and application demand, both at retail and enterprise levels, is posing a significant challenge to operators in managing and optimizing capex and opex. While the data demand is increasing, the revenue (or ARPU) isn’t increasing in the same proportion. To monetize the spend on the network, it has become imperative for operators to look at new business models. Business processes also need to be modified to adapt to the new business models.

Looking at the changing network and business scenarios, Tech Mahindra’s Network Services team took a hard look at its own services offerings in order to restructure them. The result was the Run-Change-Grow theme (RCG) that was showcased at the NS Conclave, Pune 2016. After ‘Listening’ to what the customers had to say about their current mode of operations, the changes they intend to bring in and their growth plan as they embrace the future technologies like SDN/NFV, IoT, 5G, etc. to help meet customer demands, improve customer satisfaction, improve Quality of Services thereby improving revenue and creating new business opportunities, it does look like a well thought-out decision.

Re-skilling people, bringing in process automation, setting up CoEs and strategic partnerships with potential product and solution providers are some of the key initiatives under the RCG theme, whose objective is to make its customers Run Better, Change Faster and Grow Greater.

Many analysts and partners, who attended the event and participated in the panel discussions, echoed the challenges and endorsed that the RCG initiative was in the right direction.
