Social Impact

Tech Mahindra has a long-standing commitment to corporate responsibility. Tech Mahindra's social impact can be measured by the work done by Tech Mahindra Foundation (TMF) and Mahindra Educational Institutions (MEI).

Tech Mahindra Foundation Impact Areas

The Tech Mahindra Foundation seeks to bring about the sustainable impact and social transformation in the quality of the lives of underprivileged youth through its key focus areas - Education, Employability, Disability and Corporate Volunteering.

The Foundation is running more than 150+ projects at 11 different locations in India reaching out to as many as 36,723 direct beneficiaries. With these, the Foundation has established itself as one of the leading CSRs in the country.

Impact: Promoting Education

ARISE is a key programme of the Foundation’s education vertical with a focus on enhancing the learning experience of children studying at Government schools. The ARISE Program facilitates the holistic development of our Government School in line with our mission 'Empowering through Education'.

Shikshaantar is another education initiative which focuses on transforming the capacity of Government school teachers, principals and inspectors. Engaged in numerous initiatives like Content and Pedagogy Workshops, Lecture Series, the Program is designed to enable School Teachers, Children and their Parents realize their potential.

Initiatives in education positively impacted approx. 40+ schools with 13,262 students and 2,493 teacher beneficiaries under the Shikshaantar project in 2018-19.

Impact: Enhancing Employability and Economic Empowerment

SMART (Skills for Market Training) is Tech Mahindra Foundation’s flagship employability programme that creates exciting possibilities for the youth, wherein they metamorphose into 'job-ready' skilled professionals. In addition to their pragmatic high-quality domain knowledge, students or trainees are also given training in English, soft skills and IT.

The SMART programme is expanding and currently stands at its 101 centres providing skill development training in 11 cities. SMART has successfully trained approximately 75000+ young men and women, with a placement rate of over 75% since 2012. Its robust processes, stringent monitoring system and industry-led approach, has created a model for scaling up skill development while maintaining high training standards. According to an Impact Assessment Report by KPMG, SMART delivered a Social Return on Investment (SROI) of Rs 13.28 for every rupee invested following an IRECS framework (Inclusivity, Relevance, Expectations, Convergence, and Service Delivery).

Over the years, Tech Mahindra Foundation’s initiatives have continued to evolve, while remaining responsive to the ever-changing needs of society. Besides the SMART centres, the Foundation runs three Tech Mahindra SMART Academies in Healthcare and one Digital Media Media academy under employability. The academies closely engage with the industry for constant curriculum upgradation and placements.

More than 1100 youth have enrolled across the academies to become skilled working professionals in the field of paramedics and digital media.

Impact: Supporting Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and Promoting Inclusion Disability is a common theme across all programmes at the Foundation. This theme primarily highlights the work done within the SMART+ (Skill Development for PwDs) and ARISE+(Education for PwDs) verticals. During 2018-19, the Foundation supported 3,886 Persons with Disabilities. SMART+ trained 1368 young men and women to find dignified jobs and ARISE+ supported 2486 children with disabilities to continue with their education and empowered them to join the mainstream thereafter.

Our contribution within this area has been through projects with partnered social organizations who are equally compassionate about the cause. The Programme is at an evolving stage and is designed to make an intangible yet significant contribution to the enthusiasm of PwD participants' as well as the behavioral transformation in their confidence, aspirations and the approach to live life.

Impact: Maximizing reach through Corporate Volunteering

The concept of Individual Social Responsibility is an important area of focus at the Foundation and in Tech Mahindra at large. It is implemented through corporate volunteering that works with the purpose of driving positive change among all its beneficiaries. This year, Tech Mahindra Foundation connected 31,830 associates by clocking 164,278 hours with its beneficiaries through a robust corporate volunteering programme.

As evidence for its considerable expertise in the social sector, the Foundation has won many awards including ET 2 Good for All-Round Excellence in CSR for the Years 2016-17 & 2017-18, FICCI CSR Award for its excellence in Education and Livelihood, Top CSR Contributing to Skill Development in the ET Now World CSR Day 2019, Outstanding CSR Award 2018 by Government of Telangana (Information Technology Electronics & Communications, Department), India CSR Leadership Summit recognizing CSR Community Initiative Awards 2018 for SMART (Skills-for-Market-Training) Skill Development and Health Skilling Brand among many others.
